Taras Bulba - Nikolai Gogol, D.J. Hogarth
Gogol has a way of really making his characters come alive for me, and the characters in Taras Bulba are no exception. It's a well-written, gut-wrenching tale of love, betrayal, cultural pride, and war. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that Gogol's portrayal of brotherly love seems accurate. Even the closest of brothers can be very different people who choose very different paths. Taras Bulba is full of love and adventure, and characters who follow their hearts no matter what the consequences.
