Percival Strange and the Lonely Manor - James Somers
I think my nephew would like this quite a bit (he's twelve). There's a touch of romance in the form of Percival's requited crush on Violet, but nothing that would even come close to making a twelve year old boy throw up. The action, adventure, and suspense are all here. Faith and sacrifice are two of the themes at its base, and Violet and Percy quote a bit of Scripture from time to time. To me, the book didn't come across as preachy, though. There's no profanity, but the book does contain fantasy violence; however, I think the violence is actually fairly tame by today's standards.
